Highest Paying IT Skills

Started from the Bottom

– Drake, 2013

As an IT professional entering the contract workforce, you’ve probably started from the bottom up and now given yourself a leg up in the marketplace. All your hard work is soon to pay dividends (no pun intended!).

it jobs

Luckily for you, the overall Canadian hiring outlook is promising (according to a recent Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report):

  • 74 percent of surveyed CIOs plan on maintaining their current levels and hire when openings arise;
  • 7 percent plan to add more IT work staff;
  • 16 percent plan on holding off on any more IT hires; and
  • 2 percent of CIOs surveyed plan on reducing overall IT staff totals.

According to RHT, there’s both strong demand from companies and not enough skilled workers to fill all these positions. The highest pay for IT professionals can be found (in descending order) for workers in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal.

So, what are some of the most enjoyable, in-demand, and highest paying IT skill sets and jobs for 2013? Keep reading to find out!

Web Designers

IT World Canada expounds upon some of the most in-demand IT positions for 2013 and the necessary skills needed to compete. Companies are looking for individuals who posses both front- and back-end development skills.

Those web designers who possess the right amount of experience – five years or more – will normally earn, on average, $76,000 to $120,000, annually.

Mobile Applications Developers

Tablets, smartphones, and mobile devices are all the rage these days, aren’t they? And individuals who can develop applications for these “smart” devices are in very, very high demand by companies looking to reach a broader audience. The average starting salary for mobile applications developers runs between $79,000 and $112,000, per year.

Businesses are always in need of ways to better maximize their business decisions in regards to customers, inventory, marketing, etc. What the business intelligence analysts do is gather – and analyze – data pools pertaining to business operations, histories and more, to do just that. Network Engineers

Demand for network engineers is at an all-time high, according to Chris Brady, an Edmonton-based division director for Robert Half Technology. Wireless or wired networks, cloud computing, LANs, WANs, and emerging new technologies will push those with top-level networking skill sets to the front of the resume pool.
